Our professors are in charge for their field of expertise, are involved in teaching and research topics, and convey new innovative perspectives in the world of higher education, both in dual studies and in online distance learning. Professors are employed on a permanent basis and go through an appointment procedure during the hiring process.

Lecturers

Our lecturers can be either permanent or freelance and lectures can be held remotely or at one of our locations across Germany. Our freelancers teach, are contact persons for questions and partly prepare materials. Our permanent teaching staff also work for all study formats, which makes the working day as flexible as possible. Teaching experience prior to application is a plus, but not a must.

Video Lecturers

Our freelance video lecturers record their lectures and thus give students the freedom to learn the content – detached from time and space. There is no stage fright before live lectures and the time allocation offers the highest possible flexibility. They design and create presentations and a storyboard based on the course content. Video coaches guide through the process and our production team provides both technical and conceptual support.

Authors

To the point! Our authors form an important part of our study programs by producing teaching materials (e.g. scripts) and the appropriate questionnaire at lesson level. The fee-based work is done remotely from home and can thus be scheduled with maximum flexibility. An academic profile is an advantage, but not a must.

Our correctors support our students in achieving their academic goals by checking and assessing examination performance. Initial experience in editing or as a proofreader is an advantage, but not a must.

Academia FAQs

Am I a permanent employee or freelancer in IU Academia?

Our Professors are permanently employed and our Lecturers, Tutors, and Authors are all Freelancers.

Is there a teacher forum for discussion & exchange?

Absolutely! At every location we have a regular faculty conference. We also encourage dialogue via our collaboration tools and all our module leaders are available for questions at any time.

What is the application process for a lecturer assignment?

Once we review your application you will receive a further questionnaire by e-mail to be completed and returned. We will promptly send you relevant information by e-mail about teaching at IU. We will also inform you about the process regarding a trial lecture.

When do lectures take place in dual studies?

Our dual study program includes modules that take place every two weeks and modules that are taught every week on specific days. Normally, our lectures for a module take place in blocks of 4-6 UE (UE = 45 minutes). Planning of the blocks is done in consultation with our lecturers. The weekly teaching hours are: Mon-Fri 8:00-20:00.
